Cranes Ready to Bounce Back After Tough Defeat Against Algeria
Facing mounting pressure after a disappointing 3-0 loss to Algeria in their opening CHAN group match, Uganda's national football team—the Cranes—are determined to reset their campaign starting with Friday’s crucial game against Guinea.
Coach Morley Byekwaso termed the upcoming matches “a clean slate,” emphasizing that every remaining game now feels like a final. He urged the team to leave the past behind and focus on the present, stating, “Put the body on the line for three points, and the dream is alive again.”
Byekwaso downplayed past results, including a previous 1-0 win over Guinea, insisting that this is a fresh challenge played under different circumstances. Uganda currently sits at the bottom of Group C with zero points, intensifying the urgency to deliver a strong performance.
The mood in the camp is tense but resolved. Byekwaso called on fans to rally behind the team anew: “We need those three points,” he said, contributing to a rallying cry that success now hinges not just on performance, but on the collective spirit.
With key players like Emmanuel Anyama and Marvin Youngman sidelined due to injuries, fresh tactical adjustments are expected. Byekwaso hinted at changes but kept specifics under wraps, reaffirming the belief that a clean start could keep Uganda’s CHAN hopes alive.
