Watoto Church ends pastor’s tenure over sexual misconduct

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, Watoto Church in Uganda announced the dismissal of one of its pastors due to allegations of sexual immorality.

In a video message broadcast during services across all its branches, the church leadership emphasized its commitment to upholding high moral standards and holding its leaders accountable to these values.

Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo, the team leader at Watoto Church Ministries, described the incident as "unfortunate" and one that undermines the core values of the institution. He reaffirmed the church's dedication to walking in righteousness and ensuring that members are held accountable to the Word of God.

Specific details of the misconduct were not disclosed, and the identity of the pastor involved has not been revealed pending further investigation.

Founded in 1984 as Kampala Pentecostal Church (KPC), Watoto Church has grown into one of Uganda's largest evangelical congregations, with multiple campuses across the country. The church is known for its community outreach programs, particularly Watoto Child Care Ministries.

The church maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward moral and ethical breaches among its leaders, emphasizing that leadership is both a privilege and a moral responsibility requiring integrity, accountability, and a life beyond reproach.
